  • BORN People with Autism are born with the
    disorder. It is usually noticed around the age
    of 3 - 5 years. As children they are very smart,
    but get upset easily and have trouble playing
    with other children.
  • BOYS Autism is 4 times more likely in boys than
    in girls.
  • BEWARE? No, you cannot catch Autism like a
    cold.
  • BRAIN People with Autism do not usually have a
    physical disability because it is a disorder that
    affects the brain (neurological).
  • BECAUSE The cause is unknown.

KNOTS Process
  • A letter permission slip will go home
    explaining KNOTS to your family.
  • Talk to your parents and consider volunteering.
    If so, turn in the permission slip to your
    teacher if you are interested.
  • Teachers choose KNOTS mentors based on schedules.
  • KNOTS mentors meet with staff during lunch twice
    a month for training and updates.
  • Main Focus KNOTS mentors help students with ASD
    in one general ed classroom (organize,
    re-explain, bullying issues) OR during
    lunch/recess OR you can volunteer to go to the
    Autism classroom to help 1 hour a week.
  • KNOTS mentors are included in activities such as
    fieldtrips or parties as it fits into the general
    education schedule.
