Protocol for SR visit
  • Must be invited by the State New Zealand
    government has extended an invitation to the SR
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and
    Te Puni Kokiri (TPK) are official hosts but not
    necessarily in charge of his programme

Protocol for SR visit
  • He can request the audience of particular people,
    groups or organisations
  • He accepts briefing papers and written reports
    prior to his visit
  • In previous visits he has appreciated hearing
    about specific situations/abuses, and has
    commented on the benefit of seeing first hand
    the plight of indigenous peoples

Aotearoa Programme SR
  • The SRs six day visit is from 19-24 November
  • Maori need to be coordinated and collaborative in
    their approach to ensure the SR hears the full
    range of key issues for Maori
  • This is not a Maori promotional tour it is a
    fact-finding mission to record human rights
    abuses and issues facing Maori

    committee comprising Moana Jackson (Chair),
    Huirangi Waikerepuru, Aroha Mead, Taki Anaru,
    Tahu Potiki, John McEnteer, Sacha McMeeking, Mike
    Smith, Catherine Davis, Kim Rigby, Rata Pue,
    Tracey Whare and Maui Soloman
