  • Language Arts now includes reading, writing,
    speaking, listening and viewing.

Reading
  • Focus on reading for comprehension
  • Genre units will include novels, short stories
  • Other units of study will include Poetry,
    informational text, biographies
  • Comprehension strategies will include asking
    questions, visualize, making connections,
    determining most important ideas, repair
    comprehension, inference, synthesis

Writing
  • Writing is the mirror image of reading
  • Research shows fine tuning students writing
    skills not only enhances comprehension but aids
    in the development of verbal communication
  • We will use the 6 Traits of Writing model Ideas,
    Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence
    Fluency, Conventions, and Presentation
  • Childrens writing will also reflect our genre
    units
