• The Bald Eagle became endangered in 1967. In
  1995 it was no longer endangered, but it is
  still threatened. This means that the population
  of the bald eagles has increased, but we still
  need to be careful to protect them.

• The Bald Eagle is the national symbol of the
  United States and represents our freedom. It is
  also known as the American Eagle. You can see
  the Bald Eagle on the seal of President of he
  United States and on the back of several coins.

• Bald Eagles are not really bald. They have white
  feathers on their heads. A long time ago, the
  word bald meant white. They are found throughout
  the United States except Hawaii. The largest
  number live in Alaska.

Reasons Bald Eagle Became Endangered

• 1. As settlers moved into North America, the
  natural habitat for the bald eagles changed.
  Trees were cut down and the eagles could no
  longer build nests in many trees.
• 2. Pollution and chemicals in streams
  contaminated the fish that the bald eagles would
  eat.
• 3. Hunters would shoot the bald eagle.

Reason Why the Bald Eagle Population Increased

• 1. Not allowed to hunt the bald eagle.
• 2. It is against the law to use certain chemicals
  that will harm the bald eagles food supply,
  fish.

• The Bald eagle population will grow if we
  continue to protect its habitat and food supply.
