Project Description
  • Three Northern STI educational resources were
    developed
  • STI Awareness BINGO
  • The Northern STI Game Show
  • STI presentation for laypersons

Why create new resources?
  • To create a non-threatening teaching/learning
    situation
  • Southern resources not applicable
  • Northern resources not available

  • Youth in the NWT (13 18 years)
  • Youth Workers

Project Development
  • Looked at what resources for other topics were
    popular (background research)
  • NWT STI facts were researched
  • 75 facts were put together
  • Focus tests with various groups

Project Development
  • Revise, revise, revise
  • 4th and final version of each game was produced
    printed.
  • The presentation had been previously researched
    and developed as a summer project by two nursing
    students.

Distribution
  • STI BINGOs resource CDs have been sent to
  • All CHRs in the NWT
  • Interested schools or nurses
  • Other Northern community programs

  • One hard copy of The Northern STI Game Show has
    been sent to each health centre in the NWT.
  • Electronic copies the resources are available for
    free download from YHSSAs website _at_ www.yhssa.org

Timeline
  • Intended deadline was February 15.
  • The number of revisions slowed the process.
  • Resources were provided to the printers by the
    middle of March.
  • Final distribution May 2007.
  • Launch at the Hepatitis C conference.

Project Results
  • Availability of an Northern teaching resource
  • During the focus group testing, the resources
    stimulated discussion about STIs beyond the
    games contents.
  • Copies are available on a first come, first
    served basis at this conference.

Budget
  • Money applied for
  • Printing and assembly of 400 BINGO games
  • Printing, laminating and packaging of 60 hard
    copy jeopardy games
  • Creation of 200 resource CDs

Learning Outcomes
  • The importance of collaboration.
  • The amount of time needed to create a useable
    final product.
  • Clear, descriptive plain language is very
    important.
  • Colour-coding is useful.
  • An accompanying presentation was necessary.
