Biographical Information

• Born to William A. Tankersley and Robin D.
  Tankersley May 14, 1980 at Pardee Memorial
  Hospital Hendersonville, NC.
• After years of martial arts training he achieved
  Hachkyu in the discipline Okinawa Shorin-Ryu
  Shorinkan Karate-Do under the direct tutelage by
  James Douglas Perry.
• Graduated high school from East Henderson High
  School June 1998.
• Attended AB Tech in pursuit of a degree in his
  passion of culinary arts before deciding to go to
  school in pursuit of his Calling in Law
  Enforcement.
• Graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training
  (BLET) through Blue Ridge Community College in
  April 2001.
• He has attended many specialized courses through
  the N.C. Justice Academy during 2001 to present
  time.

• Married his high school sweetheart Rachel in
  2004, after four years of dating
• Hobbies include hiking, horseback riding,
  shooting, running and other outdoor activities.

Rugby Middle School Resource Officer

• As an active team member at Rugby Middle School,
  Jonathans goal is to promote a safe learning
  environment conducive to academic excellence and
  good moral standings by representing him self as
  a role model and teaching good decision making
  skills to the students.
• His method of creating this environment is
  through emersion. He does this by using
  persistent presence around the students and
  giving them a positive interaction with law
  enforcement.

DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)

• Jonathan has had a large impact on the community
  through the DARE program by
• Teaching fifth grade students about drug abuse
  awareness, problem solving skill including peer
  pressure issues, environmental awareness,
  situational awareness and inner-personal
  development.
• Preparing the fifth graders to overcome
  challenges and obstacles encountered in middle
  school and through out life by laying a
  foundation for good morals and ethics.
• Jonathans success is contributed to his
  personal relationship with each and every student
  ultimately creating a life time bond.

Community Watch Coordinator

• Jonathan promotes, educates and resolves
  community related concerns through the Community
  Watch Program
• As the Community Watch Coordinator he promotes
  the program by starting community watch programs
  throughout the county from ground level to bring
  awareness of crime and precautionary measures to
  assure the safety of the citizens of Henderson
  County.
• His comprehensive community watch program is an
  instrumental part in the success of our joint
  participation with the citizens of our county to
  achieve community wellness.

SWAT Operator(Special Weapons and Tactics Unit)

• The Henderson County SWAT Team is renowned for
  its professionalism and its high standard of
  proficiency in the resolution of high risk
  situations.
• Jonathan is an integral part of this achievement
  due to his consistent devotion and personal
  sacrifice through rigorous training, mission
  completion and the promotion of excellence
  throughout the department.
• Jonathan is part of a team of individuals that is
  compiled of seasoned, specially skilled sworn
  officers who have earned a position on the SWAT
  team through trial and tribulations.

Departmental Sniper

• In addition to being a SWAT Operator, Jonathan is
  a part of an elite team of marksman designed for
  critical situation resolution requiring great
  skill and proficiency.
• As a departmental sniper, Jonathan is the eyes
  and ears of the SWAT Team mastering camouflage
  and surveillance techniques while providing
  tactical security for the Team.

Honors/Recognitions Received

• Jonathan received the 2009 Law Enforcement Award
  from Hendersonville Kiwanis Club for his positive
  role in the community
• He achieved Top Sniper at North Carolina Justice
  Academy Sniper School in November 2008
• He also received Officer of the Month from
  Henderson County Sheriffs Department in January
  of 2008.

Youth Awareness Education

• Was front line in providing awareness to high
  schools about the dangers of impaired driving
  though demonstrations such as the drunk driving
  goggles, Prom Promise, and by simulating a drunk
  driving wreck by bringing in an actual wrecked
  vehicle from a drunk driver to show what driving
  drunk can result to.
• Implemented an Are U Buckled program to focus
  on seat belt safety awareness to new teenage
  drivers

Community Involvement

• Boy Scouts of America
• Assisted them with obtaining their Law
  Enforcement Merit Badge by educating them on the
  history of finger printing, the processing of
  evidence and crime prevention.

• Cops and Kids
• A community and law enforcement interaction to
  promote crime awareness and prevention through
  positive contact with the community.
• Demonstrated SWAT tactics and equipment to the
  community to make them more knowledgeable about
  SWAT.

• Henderson County Sheriffs Department Explorers
• Performed as Post Leader in 2007-2008
• Trained explorers in law, criminal apprehension
  procedures, morals and ethics of law enforcement
  and interpersonal development.
