WHAT IS CALEA?
  • The Commission on Accreditation for Law
    Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) was created in 1979
    through combined efforts of four national law
    enforcement organizations.

THE PURPOSE OF CALEA
  • The purpose is two-fold
  • Develop a set of standards in police management
    and services.
  • Establish and administer a process through which
    law enforcement agencies can voluntarily
    demonstrate that they meet those standards.

THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS
  • The process can be broken down into two parts
  • The Standards
  • The building blocks around which everything else
    evolves.
  • The Process
  • Provides the blueprint and mortar to shape the
    standards into forms that are sturdy, useful and
    lasting for the agency.
