Puerto Plata Facts
       

• Puerto Plata was found by Nicolas De Cuando in
  1502. A personal decree of Christopher Columbus
  gave the city its name because of the shimmering
  silver color of its coast at sunset.
• Puerto Plata is cradled between the Caribbean
  and Atlantic oceans.
• Spanish is the official language there.
  English is also spoken, and a French dialect is
  heard along the Haitian frontier.
