Admissions Requirements
  • Eligibility
  • Completion of 45 credit hours
  • Completion of areas A through E on the DAR
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA 2.8 overall GPA
  • Application

Admissions
  • Selection criteria is based 75 on your grades in
    areas A, C and E and 25 on your Statement of
    Interest.
  • Will be informed by Friday, October 10th of
    admissions decisions.
  • An orientation will be held for all newly
    admitted students on Wednesday, Oct. 15th at 330
    p.m.

Statement of Interest Info
  • Clark Howell Hall
  • 90 minutes maximum
  • Computer or handwritten
  • Must have an appointment for computer
  • Cost is 15 if you make your appointment by 400
    p.m. the previous day (20 if you walk in)

Statement of Interest (SOI) Info
  • Computer Limited to two typed pages (about 700
    words), double-spaced. Use 12-point Times New
    Roman font.
  • Handwritten Limited to handwritten two pages,
    about 700 words. Write legibly!

  • Think and talk about your statement with friends
    and family ahead of time.
  • Make sure your statement offers a sense of who
    you are and what you seek to accomplish.
  • You are your words.

STEP 3 WRITING YOUR SOI
  • Make your appointment at least one day in
    advance, and further ahead if possible.
  • First come, first served basis
  • DO NOT wait until the last day August 29
  • Last appointment time is 330 p.m.
  • On the final days, computer spaces often fill up.

Scoring Criteria
  • Content and credibility
  • The SOI
  • Communicates a distinctive and compelling
    interest in a major, career, or the field of
    journalism and mass communication more broadly.
  • Shows credible investment in major, goals, or
    field and/or shows relevant professional
    experience.
  • Is trustworthy discusses experiences and facts
    in detail and articulates their significance.

Evaluation Criteria
  • (2) Execution/Style
  • Overall organization, structure, and style
    demonstrate competence in written communication.
  • Risks in approach or style do not undercut
    credibility or effectiveness.
  • Sentences are clear, interesting, detail-driven,
    and concrete rather than abstract.
  • Grammar or spelling are not specifically
    evaluated as long as errors dont interfere with
    clarity or effectiveness.

Important Info
  • All Grady majors are FOUR SEMESTER PROGRAMS, not
    including the semester youre admitted or
    summers.
  • Studying abroad during the Fall or Spring term
    may mean you will need more than four semesters.
