  • Math is very much manipulative based. We have a
    new math series called Math Expressions. Look at
    the website found on individual teachers sites.

  • Understand and use the concept of ones and tens
    in the place value number system
  • Represent quantity with numbers, models,
    diagrams, and number sentences
  • Add and subtract small numbers
  • Use tools for measuring length, weight, capacity,
    and time (hour, half hour, days in week, months
    in year, duration or sequence of events)
  • Observe, create, identify, classify, describe,
    and build basic geometric shapes

  • Arrange and describe objects in space
  • Solve simple problems, including geometric ones
    involving spatial relationships, and use the

  • Students work with me on specific skills based
    on assessment and student needs/guided reading

  • Social Studies lessons might be tied into the
    Language Arts theme, or they may be an
    independent unit. We will study such things as
    US History, Map and Globe skills, Economic
    Concepts, American Heros, Folktales, and basic
    Needs and Wants

  • Make observations/ask questions/investigate
  • Light, sound, and magnets
  • Shadows
  • Daily needs of plants and animals
  • Basic needs of living things

  • Science activities engaging the students in real
    life experiences.
  • Example Watching and recording weather patterns

LUNCH
  • Lunch is 25 minutes long. Students are free to
    choose where they wish to sit.
  • Feel free to join us for lunch.
  • (Parents are asked not to bring in fast food
    lunches for their child when they visit for
    lunch.)

Preparing for Home
  • Students get book bag, folder and library books.
    These go home every night and come back everyday.
    (Very Important!!)

HOMEWORK
  • Homework will be sent home on a weekly basis.
    Spelling homework will be in the folder on Monday
    and due back on Friday. Students will have a
    choice of which activities they want to do as
    well as choose list A or list B for their words.
    Math homework goes home on Tuesday and Thursday
    and is due back the VERY NEXT DAY.
  • Reading daily is a requirement. We will be
    starting AR soon and reading nightly will be a
    very big part of your childs success.
