in a time when his people was increasing in
number and the Egyptian Pharaoh was worried that
they might help Egypt's enemies. Moses' Hebrew
mother, Jochebed, hid him when the Pharaoh
ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed, and
he ended up being adopted into the Egyptian royal
    family

Moses led the Hebrews out of EgyptThis is
called the Exodus
12
This proved that God was protecting and watching
over them
  • Major event in Hebrew history
  • For 40 years the Hebrews wandered through the
    desert
  • During this time Moses parted the Red Sea to
    cross over to Canaan

13
Mt. Sinai
  • During this time, they came upon a mountain
    called Mt. Sinai
  • On that mountain, God gave Moses two stone
    tablets
  • These tablets contained The Ten Commandments

14
The Ten Commandments
  • Do not have any other Gods before me
  • Do not take the Lords name in vain
  • Remember the Sabbath
  • Honor your Father and Mother
  • Do not commit murder
  • Do not commit adultery
  • Do not steal
  • Do not bring false witness
  • Do not be envious of your neighbors house
  • Do not be envious of your neighbors wife

15
When God appeared to Moses, what form did God
take?
  • the bush was on fire, but was not consumed by the
    flames
  • the burning bush is the location at which Moses
was appointed by God to lead the Israelites out
    of Egypt and into Canaan

16
The Golden Calf
  • Moses went up onto Mount Sinai to receive the Ten
    Commandments
  • He left the Israelites for forty days and forty
nights. The Israelites feared that he would not
return and asked Aaron to make gods for them.
Aaron complied and gathered up the Israelites'
    golden earrings.
  • He melted the earrings and constructed the golden
calf. The Israelites made offerings and
    celebrated.

17
The Golden Calf
  • The Lord told Moses that his people had corrupted
themselves, and he planned to eliminate them
  • However, Moses argued and pleaded that they
should be spared, and the Lord relented.
  • Moses went down from the mountain, but upon
seeing the calf, he too became angry. He threw
down the tablets upon which God's law had been
    written, breaking them.
  • Moses burnt the golden calf in a fire, ground it
to powder, scattered it on water, and forced the
    Israelites to drink it.
  • Moses then gathered the sons of Levi and set them
to slaying a large number of men (3000).

18
Monotheistic
  • Because of all these miracles, the Hebrews agreed
    to worship only one God.
  • They also agreed to value human life,
    self-control and justice
