How to Make Transitions in Adobe Premiere
3
Premiere TransitionsArranging Clips
  • To include a transition in your project, place
your first clip on the Video 1A track and the
second clip on the Video 1B track.
  • Make sure the clips overlap each other. The
amount of overlap will be the length of the
transition. Usually, 15 to 30 frames works great
    for a quick transition.

4
Premiere TransitionsChoosing the Transition
  • If the Transitions window is not open, go to
the File Menu and click on the Window option.
Scroll down to Hide Transitions to toggle it
    to the Show Transitions mode.
  • Go to the Transitions window and select a
transition by clicking on the triangle to open a
    category of transitions.

5
Premiere TransitionsPlacing the Transition
  • Once you have decided on the transition you want,
simply drag it to the Transitions track on the
timeline between the Video 1A and Video 1B
    tracks.
  • The transition will fit the overlap between the
    two clips.
  • .

6
Premiere TransitionsPlacing and Overlap
  • There are two cases for overlap and
    clip/transition placement
  • If you are transitioning from the Video 1A
track to the Video 1B track
  • Make sure that the Video 1A clip extends to the
right end of the transition and that the Video
1B clip extends to the left end of the
    transition.
  • If you are transitioning from the Video 1B
track to the Video 1A track
  • Make sure that the Video 1B clip extends to the
right end of the transition and that the Video
1A clip extends to the left end of the clip.

to open the Transition Settings window. Each
transition will have different options for you to
    set.
  • The bottom right area provides options, including
the arrow for the direction from 1A to 1B
(or visa-versa) and the direction of the
transition effect F for Forward, R for
    Reverse.

Premiere TransitionsAdvanced Transitions
  • Premiere provides some transitions that allow you
to do even more amazing pyrotechnics in your
    projects
  • You can choose the corner from which the
transition begins, as in a Radial Wipe. (See
the red triangle to the bottom left of the B.)
  • You can set a border and its color as well on
some transitions. Move the slider for the
Border parameter and then double click the
black area under Color to choose the color of
the border you want. Remember to choose an NTSC
    safe color.

10
Premiere TransitionsQuick Time
  • Premiere comes with a Quick Time transitions
plug-in that gives you additional very cool
transitions. Drag the transition onto the
timeline and double click to open the options for
the range of transitions Quick Time provides.
