Vision of the Network
  • PESAN, Inc. is an association of environmental
    and social assessment practitioners dedicated to
    the promotion of ethical practices, technical
    competency, and professional standards in
    environmental and social assessments through open
    sharing and exchange of information

Main Purposes of the Network
  • To promote and contribute to the local and global
    practice of environmental and social assessment
    towards sustainable development.

Main Purposes of the Network
  • To promote research and consultative practices
    which identify and address the full environmental
    and social impacts of strategies, policies,
    plans, programs, and projects.
  • To promote and encourage a high standard of
    practice amongst members of the Network and
    others using impact assessment methods, in
    accordance with the Code of Ethics.
  • To foster solidarity and attend to the interests
    of the members relating to their practice within
    the Networks capacity

Specific purposes
  • To promote the development of environmental and
    social assessment theory and methods.
  • To promote environmental and social assessment
    that recognizes and accommodates different social
    and cultural values, including those of
    indigenous peoples.
  • To undertake or encourage initiatives, consistent
    with other objects, powers and resources of the
    Network, to promote or advance the protection of
    the environment.

Membership in the Network
  • Includes all environmental and social assessment
    practitioners, individual and institutional.

Activities of the Network
  • Publish periodic (semi- annual) newsletter
  • Establish and maintain a communication network
    including web site and an email list, to link
    members of the Network through Knowledge
    Development Centers, academe, etc.
  • Hold conferences for practitioners and other
    interested people on aspects of ESA theory and
    practice

  • Organize training and professional development
    activities
  • Promote confederation of ESA practitioners and
    encourage and support their activities
  • Advocate conduct of ESA for strategies,
    policies, plans, programs and projects.

  • Develop a library and/or other media resources
  • Promote the practice of peer review
  • Maintain and update a data bank of individual and
    institutional practitioners.
  • Provide expertise, services, or assistance as
    requested.
  • Participate in international activities.

Ethical Guidelines of Network
  • Commit themselves to principles of rationality,
    justice, and sustainable development.
  • Demonstrate a concern for the social and
    environmental effects of development and policy
    decisions.
  • Consider the effects of development, program and
    policy decisions on all sectors of the community,
    with reference to relevant (especially social and
    environmental) characteristics.
  • Be committed to the empowerment of all people,
    including indigenous people and those who are
    disadvantaged, to influence the development,
    policy and program decisions which affect them.
