GSC6/RAST9 Opening Plenary (1/2)
  • Agenda associated with time allocation was
    agreed.
  • A moment of silence was devoted as a tribute to
Mr. Rex Christensen (GSC5/RAST8 ACIF Head of
    Delegation) who died recently.
  • Active discussion occurred on the shortened
Ballot interval (i.e. 4 weeks) of Committee T1
and relationship to the WTO Code of Good
Practice. The meeting agreed that E-WG may
    discuss this topic.
  • Discussion on a proposed joint meeting among
ITU-T and SDOs G03 led to the creation of an
Ad-hoc Group 1 on improved relationship between
the SDOs of the 3GPPs and ITU-T to be chaired by
Mr. Philip Davidson. The meeting asked this
Ad-hoc to review and finalize a draft Resolution
    proposed by Mr. Pandya

3
GSC6/RAST9 Opening Plenary (2/2)
  • Discussion on a proposed approach on ITU-Ts
standardization for IMT2000 and beyond G15 led
to an agreement to consider the draft Resolution
    proposed by Mr. MacFie.
  • Updates since last GSC/RAST were provided on the
    activities of ITU-T, ITU-R, ATM-F, APT/ASTAP,
ETSI, T1, TTC, ACIF, TSACC, TTA, TIA and ARIB.
  • An update on the activities of Fora and Consortia
    was also provided.
  • Concern was expressed on more wider attendance of
    Liaison Organizations, especially IETF.
Necessity of additional effort was pointed out to
achieve participation of IETF in future GSC/RAST
    meetings.

4
GSC6 Plenary (1/3)
  • The current status of High Interest Subjects
    (HISs) IN/WIN/VHE, TMN, Number
Portability, IP, B-ISDN and BICC, was
    reviewed.
  • Necessity of more comprehensive approach on the
IP-related subject was highlighted G21. The
meeting agreed to create Ad-hoc 2 to be chaired
by Mr. Peter Darling to further study this issue.
  • The meeting reviewed all HISs. IN/WIN/VHE,
TMN, IP, and BICC were recognized to
continue as HISs for future GSCs, while Number
Portability, UPT and B-ISDN were recognized
to be matured enough so that they can be removed
from the HIS list. For the better collaboration,
need for further clarification of individual HIS
    was recognized.

5
GSC6 Plenary (2/3)
  • Proposal to add Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
    G21, Identification and Location Service
G16 and Optical Transmission Networks (OTN)
as new Information-Sharing Subjects (ISS) was
    agreed.

proposed approach to it G17 was made.
Discussion lead to creation of a Resolution
    proposed by Mr. Fishman.
  • Reform of ITU G19 along with a proposed
approach to it G34 was reviewed. After
discussion, the meeting agreed on the creation of
a Resolution to be drafted by Mr. Williams based
    on text in G34.

6
GSC6 Plenary (3/3)
  • The necessity of follow-up for the GSCs
conclusions up to next meeting as pointed out in
G09 was fully supported by the meeting. It was
agreed that an appointment of a Rapporteur should
be sought for each Resolution, so that he/she
    will keep track of it.
  • It was also agreed that G09 will be used as the
basis to further develop a method for follow-up
which not only enables a light-load for
    Rapporteurs but also provides sufficiently
    effective follow-up for the meaningful
    achievement of Resolutions.
  • The meeting unanimously accepted the kind
invitation of the next GSC meeting by ACIF. It
will be held on 5 -8 (or 9) November 2001 in
    Sydney.
