Title: Animal and Plant Cell Structures and Functions

1
Animal and Plant Cell Structures and Functions
  • By Olivia Coburn-Flynn and Amy Skillicorn
  • Biology Period 6 Finals Review PowerPoint

2
Cell Similarities
  • Both have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a cell
    membrane
  • The nucleus is the membrane enclosed structure in
the center of the cell that contains the DNA.
  • The Cytoplasm is the cell contents outside the
    nucleus
  • The Plasma membrane encloses the cells contents
and controls what is allowed into and out of the
    cell, made of Phospholipid bilayer
  • Made of two layers of lipids
  • all information found on pages 104-105

3
Animal Cell
  • Also contain Centrioles (organize cells for
    mitosis), Cytosol (liquid surrounding the
    organelles) , Lysosomes (intracellular
    digestion), Cytoskeleton (provides shape and
organization for the cells), Mitochondria (site
    of cellular respiration), Endoplasmic Reticulum
(compartmentalizes the cell) and Golgi Apparatus
    (packages and delivers macro organisms)
  • Centioles are found in only animal cells

Plant Cells
  • Contain every thing found in Animal cells (except
    cenrioles)
  • Additionally they contain a Cell Wall (gives
structure to plant cells), Vacuoles (stores
nutrients and waste products), Chloroplasts (site
    of all photosynthetic reactions).
