PRE-QUALIFICATIONFor those responsible for
facilities management or energy management for
their companies lighting system, there usually
can be similar questions or concerns.
Griffith Energy Team has compiled a few questions
and answers to help with basic understanding of
the benefits of a lighting retrofit
  • A facility data base with facility IDs,
    addresses, square footage, utility
    information/consumption, age, date of last
remodel, lease dates, etc. is all very helpful.
Most of this data probably resides in one or more
databases already and just needs to be accessed
    and or consolidated.
  • Contact an experienced lighting professional and
exchange ideas on the types of opportunities that
may exist within your facilities. Use your
preliminary facility data at this stage to help
triage some of the opportunities discussed so you
may focus more quickly on the things that will
have the greatest merit for your company. This
step is often referred to as the
    pre-qualification step.
  • Working with your lighting professional and using
facility drawings or data from site visits,
    develop preliminary project estimates (costs,
savings, impacts to lighting, etc). This will
provide an early on indication of what the
results of a program will be. This will help
manage expectations and provides an early
indicator of whether or not the program has a
chance to meet corporate objectives. It also
provides a sanity check for goals and objectives
that may have been unreasonably set or may be in
conflict with one another (i.e. Light Levels vs.
    Savings).
  • Take the preliminary findings to management and
determine what level of buy in you have for
moving forward and then plan accordingly. Most
often the ability to move forward from is
contingent on doing a pathfinder installation.
This may be accomplished by completing and entire
facility or by just doing and installation in a
selected test area or in the case of lighting
    maintenance, implementing a maintenance pilot
program. Pathfinders provide an initial proof of
concept and can often generate additional
momentum to the project if the expectations are
met. If you get the desired buy in, select a
vendor partner and begin developing and executing
    a detailed implementation plan.
  • Finally, the information compiled in the
qualifying stages can determine if your needs can
be met by a lighting retrofit. As you will see in
the preliminary consultation, no retrofit is too
big or too small for the Griffith Energy
consultants and their list of qualified
    contractors.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?
  • Facilities with an abundance of fluorescent
fixtures in a standard T12 configuration
  • Facilities with HID high/low bays with 3500
    annual operating hours
  • Facilities that have areas with infrequent use
  • Facilities with outdoor lighting areas that are
poorly lit or over lit with HPS and have
    surveillance cameras in use
  • Updated Facilities can also benefit from new lamp
    technologies
