Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)
  • The DEA method measures productivity and
    efficiency of industry activities
  • DEA measures the productive efficiency
    considering all the consumables used.
  • DEA can be defined as a mathematical programmed
technique that allows the construction of an
envelope, also named efficient border or
    empirical production function, from available
data come from the object that is studied.

12
Efficiency indicators
  • DEA allows the evaluation of the relative
    efficiency.
  • DEA analysis is considered for each mining
product, each country represents each one of the
    units (companies).
  • In this analysis, we evaluated the technical
efficiency, it demonstrates the capacity to
maximize the production, starting from a given
set of consumables it means to minimize the
consumables starting from a given production.
  • The value of this indicator has to be between 0
and 1, being the value of 1 the maximum
    efficiency.

Conclusions
  • This analysis yields very important data for the
comparison of the mining industry of both
    countries
  • The interesting point is that the data obtained
can be compared with other countries of the globe
  • The DEA analysis reveals that for USA, the
efficiency shown for each state in various
sub-branch does not displays a wide difference
  • The same analysis for Mexico, the indicators
    present a considerable difference
