Getting On Scene Check List

• 1. Notify Command and size up face to face.
• 2. Establish RIT post by staging equipment.
  Normally near command post.
• 3. Start RIT tactical worksheet.
• 4. RIT assumes a ready state. Full PPE and SCBA
• 5. Find/Communicate all fire building operating
  company locations.
• 6. Locate all available ladders and identify
  sizes. Locate available hoselines that could be
  used for rescue.
• 7. Verify EMS on scene and location.
• 8. Team performs their own size-up
• Building (some members walk around and return
  quickly)
• Locate all operating crews.
• Observe all possible building exits.
• 9. Perform recon as necessary.

Procedure Upon Location of Victim

• 1. Locate pass device and shut it off.
• 2. Call command on radio and advise that
  firefighter has been found - Give approximate
  location.
• 3. Check breathing. - if not breathing remove
  victim immediately.
• 4. Check SCBA pressure gauge.
• 5. Change over bottle if necessary
• Make sure emergency pack is on
• Change face piece
• Check for air exchange
• Check for entrapment - Advise command if there is
  entrapment and request additional resources if
  necessary. Reassure victim that he/she will be
  all right and that you are the Rapid Intervention
  Team.
• 6. Secure emergency pack - procedure depends on
  type emergency pack.
• 7. Remove victim
