  • Survey data collected by Gillen Guess in 6
    school districts in 3 southern states
  • Sample consisted of school psychologists and
    school counselors (N 147)
  • Collaboration defined as
  • Direct interaction between at least two
    coequal parties voluntarily engaged in shared
    decision making as they work toward a common
    goal.

Actual vs. Desired Collaboration
  • Significantly more desire to collaborate than
    actual collaboration (entire sample). Actual
    Mean near once per semester
  • Desired Mean near once per week

Psychologist/Counselor Differences
  • No overall collaboration differences between
    counselors and psychologists (both actual and
    desired collaboration)

Experience
  • More experienced psychologists and counselors
    reported significantly more actual collaboration.
  • Less experienced report a desire to collaborate
    at a similar level to those with more experience.

  • Those who are encouraged by administrators are
    significantly more likely to collaborate than
    those who are not encouraged.Encouraged Mean
