T1 and T2 as veto
T1T2 tracker with almost 4 rapidity unit
coverage T1 and T2 can be used as a veto in
order to trigger rapidity gaps (assuming T1
and/or T2 can stand L1032). 100000 signal and
gt106 QCD events have been fully simulated.

Conclusions
  • If T1 and/or T2 can be used at L1032 they can
    provide important trigger conditions.
  • Veto conditions on the telescopes result in a
    very high signal acceptance (gt90) and QCD
    background rejection (some orders of magnitude).
  • As expected, in presence of pileup events
    (Lgt41032), a steep fall of efficiency is
    observed, due to the very low probability of rap
    gap survival.
  • The results have been published in the
    proceedings of the HERA/LHC workshop.
  • If these results are going to be included in the
    LOI a short note (TOTEM-note?) is needed to be
    quoted in the LOI.
