To the right is the title page of a book. Almost
all of the information needed to build a citation
can be found on this page or on the reverse side.
To begin with we need to identify an author or
authors. Where no individual is clearly
identifiable as the author, you may use the name
of the organisation(s) responsible for the
content of the publication. In this instance, it
is Higher Education Statistics Agency.

Next, the citation will need to give the year of
publication. Even though this may not be on the
main title page, the year is still always the
second item of information given in a Harvard
format reference.
In this instance, you will need to look on the
reverse of the title page to find the date. Here
it is 2003. (NB 2001/2002 is part of the
title.) So, in our Harvard reference list, our
reference now reads

on the main title page.
In this instance, the title is First destinations
of students leaving higher education
institutions, 2001/02. The subtitle is Reference
Volume. So, our reference now reads Higher

Lastly, the reference will need to say where and
by whom (person or organisation) the book was
published
In this instance, the place of publication (given
on the reverse of the title page) is Cheltenham.
If there is more than one place listed, give the
first one (or the location of the publishers
head office). As often happens with corporate
authors, this item was also published by Higher
Education Statistics Agency.
