Enhancing Teaching and Learning

  • 1.6 Million spent in this room, very impressive
  • They use Class server and Sharepoint Portal
    server
  • KHS is now creating interactive learning
    environments

  • Less affluent part of Singapore
  • Very forward thinking Principal
  • National Awards for video work
  • Epson, Smartcard (Ezylink) to deliver smartcard
    student sign on and cashless canteen (Same as
    used by Singapores Rail network).
  • Built small lake and concreted part of playground
    for wireless remote controlled boats and cars

  • Targets indigenous students without a PC at home
  • Computers donated by community
  • 40 hours tuition on hardware/software
  • Students built own PC
  • Take PCs home (extended families)
  • 12 months internet access
  • Requirements
  • 100 explained attendance
  • Behave in school (no levels)

Specifics of our Indigenous Bytes 2005 program
  • Targeting indigenous students and boys in Years
    7,8 9
  • Students with literacy and numeracy issues
  • These classes include
  • 21 indigenous students
  • 47 boys
  • 80 students
  • Use the technology to engage the students in the
    classroom
  • Provide stimulating engaging lessons to improve
    literacy and numeracy

  • In all my years in IT and Education I have never
    seen this phenomenon before..
  • Principals comment
  • I have taught that many times in my career, but
    that was exceptional Principal talking about our
    newly skilled Head Teacher HSIE.

Whole school transformation
  • Teaching and learning is being transformed across
    the school.
  • We are about to equip another 3 rooms.
  • I am so excited when I walk past previously chalk
    and talk teaching rooms and see the internet or
    some other engaging activity in full flight.
