Astronomer promotions

• Assistant -gt Associate promotion follows
  recommendation by SPC to DG
• Associate -gt Full is the responsibility of the
  Faculty following the process outlined here

Process (in words)

• Examine our current list of Associate Astronomers
  holding an indefinite contract once a year around
  the time of performance assessment.
• Select those that fall within the (soft) window
  defined in the ESO Astronomy Charter criteria for
  this level.
• Submit a proposal from Faculty Chair to SPC for
  endorsement.
• Write a letter from the Faculty chair to promoted
  astronomers with copies to the DG, Head of
  Personnel and the SPC.
• Inform the Faculty of the outcome at a subsequent
  meeting.
• In the case of appeal, a decision will be made by
  the Faculty Chair in consultation with the head
  of the Office for Science.
