Background (Popularization of ITS Technology for
Car Users in Japan) - Vehicle Information
Communication System (VICS)
  • Provide real-time road traffic congestion
information on car navigation system which
    started in 1996

Survey of Demonstration on MEX (2/3)
  • 89 of participants answered positively.
  • Merging Assistance, Providing Information on
Obstacles Ahead and Parking Lot Payment got
    high evaluations.

17
Results of Smartway 2007Results of Questionnaire
Survey of Demonstration on MEX (3/3)
  • 59 of participants wish to purchase ITS-OBU.
  • Majority of them think they will do so when
    replace their car
  • Condition for purchase of ITS-OBU of those who
    answered he/she would not purchase
  • If ITS-OBU is cheap (or the same price as
    current car-navigation systems)
  • If the locations of these services are expanded
(deployment of DSRC antenna to nationwide)
  • If service contents are enrich (enhancement of
    preciseness of information)
