School Community Councils may provide advice and
recommendations to the Board of Education
respecting policies, programs and education
service delivery, including
  • Any religious exercises to be used
  • preceding the regular daily program,
  • Locally determined course options and
  • language of instruction,
  • Student code of conduct,
  • Use of school facilities and grounds for
  • other than school activities,
  • Grade discontinuance and school closure,
    maintenance, development, and
  • beautification of school facilities and
  • school grounds, including playground
  • equipment,
  • Any matter considered to be in the
  • interests of education in the local
    school,
  • subdivision or school division, and/or
  • Innovative projects.

For the purposes of appropriate communication and
awareness, School Community Councils are to
discuss any proposed recommendations with a
sub-division Board member prior to making
submissions to the Board of Education. Specific
requests dealing with finance are to be discussed
with the school principal prior to submission.
Submissions should be made prior to February 1
for consideration in the budget of the new fiscal
year.

Communication Protocols Example 1
  • Fee Schedule for use of school facilities
  • Fee schedule indicating maximum fees that may be
    charged for use of a school is approved by the
    Board of Education.
  • Fee schedule is communicated to Principals who
    communicate it to School Community Councils.
  • According to administration policy 903 and the
    approved fee schedule, each SCC sets the specific
    fees for use of facilities in its school.
