RVS Runway Incursion Prevention Plan
  • JRAA Recommendations.

What is the end goal?
  • To eliminate runway incursions and/or deviations
    by
  • Upgrading/replacing aging gate equipment.
  • Show the FAA that steps are being taken to
    mitigate runway incursions/deviations.
  • Minimize impact on commercial operators, tenants,
    end users and guests.

What has happened so far.
  • TAA staff has formulated a plan consisting of
    five main initiatives.
  • Bids have been sought and received.
  • Plan was presented to the TAIT trustees (item
    has been deferred twice pending further input
    from JRAA.)
  • The FAA will be supplying the majority of the
    funding for the project through a grant.

  • Replace and/or upgrade three existing exterior
    gates.

  • Add ability to use remote opening devices in
    addition to the keypads.
  • Add large letter signage stating Restricted Area
    Hangar owners and Authorized persons only.

  • Upgrade main entrance.

  • Relocate main entrance from Elwood Ave (shown on
    right) to 91st St in conjunction with public
    viewing area.
  • Traffic on Elwood Ave has increased and will
    continue to increase with the opening of the new
    shopping mall and continued expansion of new
    housing additions.
  • Proposed TAA main gate entrance will be reduced
    to a single lane.
  • Continued on next slide.

    area.)

  • Add fencing from weather station to Christensen

Summary
  • Recommend relocation of the main gate, along with
    consolidation of the public viewing area to 91st
    St.
  • Add Swing-Arm gate on NW perimeter road.
  • Address taxiway Kilo and Tango issues.
  • Improve signage and lighting at airport entrance
    and all interior gates.
