24
NB Core Propositions
  • Ideals that guide all NB standards and
    assessments.
  • Accomplished teachers model exceptional
  • Knowledge
  • Skills
  • Dispositions
  • Beliefs

25
Five Core Propositions
  • Teachers are committed to students and their
    learning.
  • Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to
    teach those subjects to students.
  • Teachers are responsible for managing and
    monitoring student learning.
  • Teachers think systematically about their
    practice and learn from experience.
  • Teachers are members of learning communities.

Architecture of Accomplished Teaching
  • Set new goal Network with teachers at other
schools to learn more about how they support
    struggling students.
  • Reflect I am comfortable with the new
approaches, but some students still experience
    difficulty.
  • Evaluate I now present material in different
ways to meet the needs of my students. Several of
    my students seem successful.
  • Implement Begin using manipulatives with
    students.
  • Set goal Take a course in using manipulatives to
    teach problem solving.
  • My needs I must learn how to support my
students. How can I teach them to approach word
    problems?
  • My students needs Many are struggling with
math, especially word problems. They need
different approaches to solving math problems.

28
Architecture of Accomplished Teaching
  • Set new goal Create a mobile technology training
program so teachers can have at-the-elbow
assistance and may use new technology-based
    activities.
  • Reflect Barriers limit teacher attendance. I
have control over when and where the class is
    taught.
  • Evaluate A few teachers use the technology. Only
    20 teachers took the course.
  • Implement Teach the course.
  • Set goal Develop a course in instructional
    technology for teachers.
  • My needs I need a way to help teachers become
comfortable in using technology in their
    classrooms.
  • Student needs Students need more opportunities
to use available technology to enhance learning,
which requires teachers who use technology in
    instruction.
