Prime Test Objectives
  • To verify correct performance of the smoke
    management system against approved design-
  • Satisfactory operation of smoke detection
  • Correct sequence of control of alarms, smoke
    vents and applicable air inlet arrangements
  • Attaining adequate smoke layer depths / smoke
    clear heights
  • Visual demonstration of smoke venting performance
    including satisfactory flow of smoke.
  • Conformance to HK FSD Circular Letter 2/2002

  • Vertical thermocouple tree located away from
    turbulent plume (assess rate of accumulation of
    smoke in reservoir)
  • Visual and thermographic assessment of smoke

  • Record actual detector operation time
  • Extract operation time simulated to match design
    sprinkler response time
  • Alcohol tray heat source per AS4391 configuration
  • Tracer smoke injected into entrained plume - high
    injection adopted to avoid burning of smoke
