Title: GOING TURBO WITH NUMBERS Is our lives designed mathematically

1
GOING TURBO WITH NUMBERS Is our lives
designed mathematically?
  • A Technology Learning Area project for Grade 8

2
Questions
  • What mathematics concept is most useful in our
    daily lives?
  • What is the number pattern?
  • What are different number patterns that are part
    of our daily usage?

3
Learning outcomes
  • Learning Outcome 1
  • Number and Number Relationships
  • Assessment Standard 12.1.3
  • (a) Identify and solve problems involving number
patterns, including but not limited to arithmetic
    and geometric sequences and series.
  • (b) Correctly interpret sigma notation.
  • (c) Prove and correctly select the formula for
and calculate the sum of series.
  • (d) Correctly interpret recursive formulae
  • (e.g. Tn1 Tn Tn-1 )

4
Background
  • Learners will investigate patterns in natural and
man-made structures and analyse these. They will
conclude whether our life is mathematically
    designed.

5
Project Tasks
  • Learners are given activities and worksheets in
which they are introduced to number theory and
number pattern, eventually to sequences and
    series.
  • They conclude this with a discussion on number
patterns in nature and different sequences and
series in solving problems, thus concluding to
what extent our life is designed mathematically.

6
