3Implementing Open Access at Universities What
really matters!
- Why is OA relevant to us, i.e. the Rectorate?
- Access to scientific information cant be any
longer secured by the local budget - IRs assemble the local research output at one
place, hence facilitating visibility to the
outside world (funders, potential partner
institutions) see link to local research
database - IRs can support research evaluation
- Others, mainly MPG, DFG, international
organisations are already supporting OA - Build a trusted relationship with the Rectorate!
4Implementing Open Access at Universities What
really matters!
- Why is OA relevant to us, i.e. the Authors?
- Electronic journals subscriptions have been /
need to be significantly reduced new
subscriptions almost unaffordable - Author practice has direct impact on access as
user (raise awareness for researcher author
user) - Self-archived articles in IRs increase the
visibility and citation impact - IRs support interdisciplinary collaboration and
research (getting to know about colleagues
work) - Others, such as MPG, funding bodies (DFG, EC),
learned societies etc. are already supporting OA - Build a trusted relationship with Authors!
5Implementing Open Access at Universities What
really matters!
- Support actions that have some impact
- University wide task force/working group, where
authors and rectorate members talk to each other - Gain researchers as OA advocates
- Point local authors and rectorate (very
selectively) to prominent actions at prominent
institutions, by renowned scientists - Target-group specific information about OA
6Implementing Open Access at Universities What
really matters!
- Implement services, that fit authors needs
