Why CCTV?
  • Goals
  • To reduce offending
  • To reduce the number of victims of crime
    (personal and community)
  • To understand how offenders/potential offenders
    view cctv

Why CCTV?
  • Measures?
  • Aiding those who observe CCTV screens
  • Perhaps training and developing skills
  • Processing (by whatever means) the precursors to
offending behaviours allowing people to intervene.

  • Understanding identifiers such as gait
  • (other than faces).
  • Seeing and understanding movement an intention
more generally - perhaps using ideas from Direct

Why CCTV?
  • To develop ways in which CCTV can be deployed
inside legal and human rights constraints
  • To understand acceptable CCTV and unacceptable
    recording such as speed cameras
  • (I do whats acceptable - you offend!)

7
Why CCTV?
  • Not to look at Undergrads ability to recognise
faces from CCTV, neither live, nor via video nor
    stills
  • Not to assess non-professionals ability to use
CCTV for identification, nor understanding of
what is seen on the screens.

8
Why CCTV?
  • I have carried both quantitative and qualitative
research for a variety of customer groups, and
    funding bodies.
  • Interested most in the European Model of problem
    centred research, and multi-disciplinary groups
    seeking solutions together.
