What are the major factors that motivate women to
participate in the local workforce?
  • Why women in Belgium work is mostly being
answered by the fact they want to earn money and
to be able to buy live supplies. Of course that
is true, but there are other factors as well.
  • 1) Economic
  • There has been a change in the mind of people. In
our society we expect people to go and work.
People who dont for example due to physical
disability or the fact there isnt any work to be
found can rely on a social security we have
developed during the years. They receive a small
amount of money to secure their living abilities.
They also get an education in how to apply for
jobs and find one. In Belgium therefore it is not
accepted to make profit of this system, although
    many do.
  • 2) Social
  • Its being said that many women go out working to
  • have a social contact. This is more important
    for
  • women than for men. They want to go working so
  • they can chit-chat with mostly their other
  • female colleagues.

What are the major factors that motivate women to
participate in the local workforce?
  • 3) Physical need
  • Working means you are being useful. It gives
women the satisfaction of being needed for their
    creativity, intellectual abilities. Therefore
they mainly chose a job that is being linked with
    their personal interests.
  • 4) Structure
  • It gives women a structure in life. Women are
more in need of structure in life than men. Women
without work mainly complain about the drag of
life. Each day is the same. Theres no difference
between week and weekend, morning and evening.
    locatie. Er is een sterkere
  • heteronormanieve omgeving in Franstalig België.
    De geografische migratie van platteland
  • naar de stad is frequenter bij Franstalige
Belgen. De stad is anoniemer, er zijn grotere
  • bedrijven, er is een milder holebi-klimaat in een
grootstad als Brussel dan in Wallonië.
  • Maar omdat België klein is is het verschil
ruraal/urbaan niet zo groot als in omringende
  • landen.

6
What are the major factors that motivate women to
participate in the local workforce?
  • A questionary being held by the Office of
Womenstudies at Brussels (Capital of Belgium)
    gave the following results
  • For almost 30 of the women questioned, the
sexual oriëntation influences their job choice,
for 28 the compagny choice, for almost 34 the
fieldsector, for 31 the geographical location of
the job and 8 has the thought of starting on
    their own.
  • It is striking that the sexual oriëntation is
more important for the French part of Belgium
    than for the Flemish
  • The geografical migration to the country side is
more seen at the French part than the Flemish
    one. geografische migratie van platteland

What are the major issues that hinder women from
participating in the Dutch workforce?
  • Quote on a Flemish discussion board of the
    Flemish parliament (Work sector)
  • Women belong to be home
  • with their children. They
  • have to dedicated
  • to them and bring
  • them up with their love.
  • Bring them to school and
  • pick them up. Give them all the attention
    while
  • taking care of the household with all care
and fun. A child therefore belongs, to
Vedische sayings, to be with his mother
till the age of 5 and not in some sort
    of day care.

8
What are the major issues that hinder women from
participating in the Dutch workforce?
  • Women find it more difficult than men to
accomplish the physically and mentally demands of
    their work.
  • Women have less energy, deal with more depression
and therefore have a bigger chance to lose their
    jobs or taking sick leave.
  • Also the Emancipation monitor 2006 of the Social
and Cultural Plan bureau reports that women are
getting more easily work inability than men. And
this is not because of the double role they for
fill, because the chance of a Burn out seems to
be the most with women who dont have children.
  • And thats not all too positive A lot of women
feel they arent being taken seriously at their
work. Thats why they are going to compensate.
Insecure overachievers, is it being called. Not
all too well for your mentally health and labor
    motivation.
  • Does that mean that the problem situates itself
between the two ears? No, because women who start
their career with some sort of lack of
experience, are right. The company culture are
still being ruled by the men forces. Women dont
feel comfortable in a competitive environment
where only the end result counts. They cant and
wont adapt to the manly workforce.

Discrimination
  • 04/09/'08
  • The total of women that was being hired for a top
function, or that has made any promotion has
drastically decreased in the last year. Women are
being discriminated in at least 12 of the 25
investigated work sectors. Only 8 sectors gave
the women more chance than the previous year.
  • The media is being overwhelmed with news
  • about the breaking of the glaze ceiling.
  • Women are supposed to being hired for a top
  • function quicker, and making promotion is
  • no longer just a man business. Wrong, say
  • some Belgian investigators now. They
  • investigated 25 work sectors during 2 years
  • and concluded a drastically decrease of work
  • discrimination.

Discrimination
The glaze ceiling We cant speak about the
glaze ceiling, but of a solid concrete ceiling
says one of the investigators. Too many
bosses are starting to think back of the thought
that women belong to be home at the grate. It is
still a mens world when you are on the top, the
scientist conclude. Source Flemish newspaper
