  • In 1960 a company called Sernynl started testing
    PCP on human patents.
  • The companys founder was Parke-Davis
  • The reason for testing PCP on humans was for the
    hope of providing a calming effect before
    surgery, to stop pain during surgery, to relieve
    pain after surgery, and to reduce pain in people
    who were severely injured.

  • Although PCP worked, people experienced bad side
    effects.
  • Side effects included Jumbled speech, delirium,
    disoriented behavior, agitation, and
    hallucinations.
  • Because of bad side effects the drug was
    discontinued as a human drug and labeled for
    veterinary as a tranquilizer.

  • In 1960 PCP began being used as a recreational
    drug.
  • Correlated with unpleasant experiences.
  • Was out of use in about a year.

  • In 1970 PCP began being sold to drug dealers in a
    liquid or powder form.
  • Before it was only available in pill form.
  • Was extremely inexpensive to produce.
  • Was being mixed with, or sold in place of other
    drugs.
  • Took users off guard.

Physiological Effects
  • Effects at high doses include Blood pressure,
    breathing rate, and pulse rate drop drastically.
  • Nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, loss of
    balance, dizziness, seizures, coma, and death can
    also occur.

Psychological Effects
  • PCP at high dose include Euphoria, calmness,
    feelings of strength and invulnerability,
    agitation, violence, and bizarre behavior.

Conclusion
  • Many researchers have found, with excessive use
    of PCP, symptoms can be related to that of a
    schizophrenic.
