Title: Nominal TB Reporting

1
Nominal TB Reporting
  • NTP Syria
  • Damascus - September 2002

2
What is TB nominal reporting
  • It is the reporting of cases registered in TB
    diagnostic centers by name.
  • This reporting can be monthly or quarterly
according to the level of the service and the
    workload.

3
Beginning of the story
  • The Monthly TB nominal report on case finding,
was introduced in all provinces during 1994-1995
    before DOTS implementation
  • During 1995-1996 the NTP CU tried to keep the
quality of information and the regularity of
    reporting within standards.

4
Next step
  • In 1996 a computerized program was developed
using Excel to document the notification
    electronically.
  • The first printed annual report was produced for
1997, the same year of beginning of DOTS project.

5
It is still useful
  • The monthly TB nominal reporting proved to be a
very efficient tool during DOTS expansion to
calculate the needs ( drugs and other supplies),
to facilitate the supervision, to improve the
accuracy of quarterly reports using double
checking, and finally prevent duplication using
    the national case index number
  • 000(X,B,E)Pdn/Y
  • Eg 112E,D1/2002

6
Next step
  • During the last year the monthly TB nominal
report of follow up tests and treatment outcomes,
    was also introduced
  • Both the case finding and treatment outcomes
reports can compose the district register.

7
Practically
  • They are send from the TB centers at the
provincial level ( diagnostic level), to the
central unit as a hard copy, and they are entered
in the computer files at the central level.
  • Due to the lack of human power and computers at
the central unit, it was hard to keep all the
information updated as a soft copy but they are
all available as a hard copy.

8
More over
  • Some provinces now began to inter and send soft
    copies of the reports.
  • The main obstacle is the availability of
computers in TB centers at the provincial level.
  • Training is not an obstacle, since what is needed
is only to enter the information on the excel
    sheet.
  • Updating the management of data does not need an
    expert or a programmer.

Let us see example
  • We will go now to a demonstration file to see an
    example
