Title: WE ARE DEALING WITH THE GREATEST HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN HISTORY' AN ENTIRE GENERATION IS BEING LOST
1- WE ARE DEALING WITH THE GREATEST HUMANITARIAN
CRISIS IN HISTORY. AN ENTIRE GENERATION IS BEING
LOST ON THE CONTINENT OF AFRICA AND MILLIONS OF
CHILDREN, WHO HAVE A RIGHT TO A BETTER FUTURE,
ARE GROWING UP ON THEIR OWN.
CREATING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR CHILDREN
ORPHANED BY AIDS IN AFRICA
2 MISSION
- NextAid's mission is to promote
community-driven, environmentally sustainable,
economically and socially empowering responses to
the African AIDS orphan pandemic. -
- NextAid collaborates with individuals,
businesses and nonprofits to produce creative,
culturally-rich, awareness-raising projects and
music events involving technology, the arts,
public education projects, and volunteer
opportunities. Through grass-roots efforts,
NextAid provides opportunities for concerned
individuals to make a tangible difference in the
lives of African children in need.
3THE FACTS (AN ORPHAN PANDEMIC)
- Every 14 seconds a child loses a parent to AIDS
- Only 10 of the 12.3 Million of children orphaned
by AIDS are receiving public services - There are more AIDS orphans in Africa than
children under the age of 5 in the U.S. - Child-headed household is an official
population category in South Africa
12.3 MILLION AIDS ORPHANS
SOCIAL
10 RECEIVING PUBLIC SUPPORT
4WHY HELP AFRICA?
- The consumption patterns of industrialized
countries directly contribute to the scarcity of
resources in Africa - The world benefits from the wealth of resources
including oil, diamonds, plutonium, minerals for
our cell phones - Africa is the only continent going backwards in
most areas of development. Indicators such as
life expectancy, infant mortality rates, GNP, and
literacy rates show Sub-Saharan Africa stagnating
or declining while the rest of the world is
advancing - It is the birthplace of the human race
- The instability of Africa caused by AIDS is
creating a threat to global security - Children rights are being violated in epidemic
proportions
5GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- Empowering grass-roots organizations on the
ground, with a special focus on women and girls - Developing community-driven initiatives
- Supporting business enterprise which leads to
self-reliance, sustainability and prosperity - Building a movement of solidarity for children
with like-minded organizations and individuals - Creating opportunities to experience tangible
change - Replicating best practices and models for orphan
care and sustainable development - Developing strategic partnerships
6WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT?
- Sustainable Development is a strategy of serving
human needs while supporting the ecological
foundation upon which all things rely. - By fostering solutions rooted in sustainable
development, NextAid supports ecologically sound
growth, while balancing social and economic
needs.
THE NEXUS BECAUSE THERE IS A CONNECTION BETWEEN
WHAT WE DO, HOW WE CHOOSE TO LIVE OUR LIVES, AND
THE FORTUNES OR MISFORTUNES OF OTHERS AROUND THE
WORLD.
