Rural Area Veterinary Services
  • Dog and cat spay/neuter clinics on tribal
    reservations
  • Washington State 4-H/RAVS is the only such
    partnership between 4-H and this Humane Society
    of the U.S. program
  • 15 veterinary science youth have participated in
    this service learning opportunity

RAVS Impacts
  • Owners have reduced pet food costs and healthier
    animals
  • Fewer strays reduces the amount of animal feces
    in the community, which improves water quality,
    reduces human health risks and improves the
    quality of life
  • Communities report fewer nuisance animal

  • 4-Hers report gains in life skills, awareness of
    pet care concerns, knowledge of pet-related
    issues, changed attitudes regarding responsible
    pet ownership, increased pet-care skills,
    strengthening of veterinary career aspirations
    and increased motivation to educate others about
    responsible pet care
  • Pet owners demonstrate increased knowledge and
    awareness about responsible pet ownership,
    changed attitudes regarding responsible pet
    ownership, increased aspirations to care for
    their animals and increased motivation to be a
    good pet owner. They demonstrate changed behavior
    and practices by being repeat customers at RAVS
    clinics
