What is Geospatial Information?

• Historically Geospatial Information was paper
• maps and charts and the information to
• provide precise coordinates
• Eventually these old products evolved
• into the digital maps, charts, and data bases
• we have been using for the past 20 years
• Now we are moving to an all digital world of
• maps and charts, data bases and imagery
• -- all of these are geospatial information

NGAs Direction

• In 2000 NGA established the goal of an all
  digital environment by 2010
• National Geospatial Transition Plan (GTP)
  provides guidance to the Services
• In 2002 AF/XO published AF GTP
• Implements National GTP
• Provides AF users with processes, architectures,
  tools, and training to transition to the 2010
  environment
