3Charles Spurgeon on business and mission
- I have often noticed that any place where there
is little business doing is bad for religious
effort. Among the negroes of Jamaica, whenever
they had not much work, there was little
prosperity in the churches. I could indicate
districts, not far from here, where business is
slack and there you will find there is very
little good being done. All along the valley of
the Thames, there are places where a man might
preach his heart out, and kill himself but there
is little or nothing of good being accomplished
in those regions, just as there is no active
business life there. - (from an excerpt from the book The
Soul-Winner Chapter 6 entitled, Obstacles to
Soul-Winning)
4CED is a Church Planting Strategy
- Strategically locating a Christian Enterprise in
a community where the Gospel is needed. - The people of that place are attracted by the
jobs and financial activity. - As the Christian is faithful to share the Gospel,
people will believe. - A church will form naturally as a result.
- The church will enjoy financial support from the
business from the day it starts finances
generated by the people who live there.
5Incubators

6A Western Perspective in Volunteer Missions
- Attitude American Filters vs. Cultural Accuracy
- Supporting Pastors, churches ministries
- Throwing money at the problem
- Short-term thinking vs. Long-term thinking
- Short-term volunteer mission trips with
short-term thinking vs. Short-term volunteer
mission trips with long-term thinking. - Band-Aids vs. Fixes
7Programmatic vs. Strategic
- An incubator for CED is not a program to be
plugged into the efforts of a mission program. - It is a process involving strategic thinking and
preparation. - Things to consider
- Needs of that location.
- Missionaries in the area.
- The thinking of the Christian population.
- The resources of the mission organization /
church.
8Indigenous Perspective in Building a
Self-Sustained Ministry
- Changing the Paradigm
- Individual Ownership
- Micro-Enterprise
- A can-do thinking
- A level of confidence and independence
