Title: Road Map

1
My Road Mapby Erin Kelly
A sense of place concerns that need to find a
familiar landscape as refuge from the unknown
(237).
2
My Beginning
I was born on May 9, 1989 at Presbyterian
Hospital in Dallas, TX. I have lived in Plano my
whole life.
My first Christmas
3
My First House in Plano, TX. I lived here from
when I was born until 3rd grade
I loved this house because it had a feeling of
love and security.
The love of security, of an habitually
undisputed standing-ground or sleeping-place,
came to count for much in the generation and
correcting of his thoughts, and afterwards as a
salutary principle of restraint in all his
wanderings of spirit (257).
4
Trip to Minnesota
I traveled to Minnesota to visit my cousins,
where we went to the Mall of America, Camp
Snoopy, and skiing.
5
Elementary School
The sense of place one gets there is of a
homelike environment, with a parental figure and
sibling-like children to play with (285).
I attended Thomas Elementary for Kindergarten
through 3rd grade and Mathews Elementary for 4th
and 5th grade. Both are in Plano, TX, but my
family moved houses in the same city. Elementary
school was such a fun place with many childhood
memories, such as recess, field days, Camp
Classen, Colonial Days, Immigration Simulation,
and many more.
6
Sandestin, Florida
I traveled to the beach in Florida with my
extended family in 3rd and 5th grade. The
beaches were beautiful.
7
Six Flags and the State Fair
I went to many places like Six Flags and the
State Fair with my friends and family every year.

8
Holidays
Holidays have always been a big tradition in my
family. We always have Easter, Thanksgiving, and
Christmas with my relatives, usually at my
grandparents house.
9
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church
This is the church I have been raised in my whole
life. I got my first communion and my
confirmation here. My faith and spiritual
journey are very important to me.
To draw a map of our spiritual journey is to
look for the experiences and changes, the turning
points, triumphs and crashes, dark nights and
mountain peaks we each have traversed to become
the kind of person we are (294).
10
Galveston Family Reunions
We had family reunions in Galveston many times
because my grandparents on my dads side lived in
Houston. It was so much fun going to the beach
and places like Kemah with my cousins.
11
Extravaganzas in Austin
We had family reunions in Austin where my
grandparents lived every year. I had many
memories with all my cousins in Austin like
playing in the woods in the backyard, looking out
the telescope on the roof balcony, magic shows,
talent shows, and many other surprises. It was
my home away from home, a place to relax and
enjoy spending time with my cousins and relatives.
12
My second house in Plano, TX
A sense of place is also critical to the
development of a sense of morality and of human
identity (249).
This is the house I lived in from 4th grade until
leaving for college. It is the house where I
truly grew into the person I am today.

13
Schimelpfenig Middle School
My middle school years were a lot of fun. I feel
like I really changed a lot through middle
school. I made a lot of friends and got involved
in school. I played volleyball and was a
cheerleader.
14
Summer Camp at Sky Ranch
I went to a summer camp, Sky Ranch, for four
years when I was younger. It was a Christian
camp, and such a fun place to meet new friends
and do fun activities while growing in my faith.
15
Hiking in Arizona
I traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to visit some of
my cousins. We went hiking on Camelback
Mountain. It was so much fun because I never see
mountains since Ive always lived in Texas.
16
Jasper High School
I attended Jasper High School for 9th and 10th
grade. I enjoyed high school. I was a
cheerleader both years. I spent a lot of my time
here practicing and perfecting both cheerleading
and my studies.
17
Medical Center of Plano
This is the hospital room I spent time in when I
was injured in cheerleading my sophomore year. I
bruised my spinal cord and had a concussion. I
was very disappointed with the outcomes, but this
is a place where I learned a lot about myself
and felt lucky to not be in a worse condition.
18
Plano Senior High School
I went to Plano Senior High for 11th and 12th
grade. These were my favorite years of school.
I was very involved in Student Congress. PSHS
was a place I spent much of my time with amazing
friends, students, and teachers.
19
The Pool and Lake
The Pool at my House
I have always had a passion for swimming both on
a team and just for fun. I spent much of my
summers in the pool and at the lake. Both are
places that are so refreshing and remind me of
great memories and summertime.
The lake where my aunt and uncles lake house is
20
Plano Dance Force
My competitive dance team I competed with in high
school. I met some of my greatest friends.
Dancing was always a place where I could forget
everything else and just focus on my passion.
21
High School Football Games
I was in a spirit group in our high school called
Mamasitas. Football games were a place where our
entire student body, parents, alumni, and faculty
bonded together through a great sense of pride
and school spirit.
22
Austin, Texas My New Home
I love the city of Austin, and Im looking
forward to spending my next four years here
continuing to make great memories.
23
The University of Texas
My new room in San Jacinto dorm
The UT tower
I am so excited to be a student at UT and am
looking forward to a fantastic college experience
at this campus and meeting new friends and
professors.
