Title: Persimmon Hills Omnifaith

1
Persimmon Hills Omnifaith Community Church
The local church has an illustrious history that
opened its doors on March 6, 1820. It is situated
on the hill and looks down upon Persimmon Hills
with a protective and ostentatious presence. The
church has been rebuilt once and renovated twice
since its original foundation was erected. A
fire in 1864 burned the church to the ground and
was ruled an arson event. The guilty party was
never caught by the police. Although the church
was burned down during the civil war, the church
was rebuilt during the fall of 1865 after the
conclusion of the War Between the States. The
cemetery is located to the right of the sanctuary
and has been in use since the church opened.
Some of the headstones are heavily worn due to
erosion and acid precipitation. According to the
church records, the first person buried in the
cemetery was Wilbur E. Formoola born on Feb. 16,
1742 and died on May 28, 1820. Although there
was no standing church between 1864-1865, over
100 civil war heros were returned and buried in
the cemetery close to family and friends.
