Health Updates
  • Develop Quarterly P.E. Newsletter to provide
    information regarding the latest trends in
    fitness, health, and nutrition.
  • Communicate with parents staff regarding
    updated news in what students are doing in P.E.
    classes.

Health Management
  • Develop various methods to help students regulate
    their weight through muscle toning, strength, and
    calorie reduction.
  • Work collaboratively with the health office
    regarding nutrition, weight management, growth
    and development issues.
  • Develop innovative approaches to reducing the
    risk of heart and coronary heart diseases.
  • Examples of innovative methods and
    techniques
  • Fitnessgram Software (Grade 4-6) Sit Reach
    test, Curl-ups, Push-ups, and PACER
    test-conducted in the fall and spring.
  • Walkers Club Walking, and recording steps and
    distances using pedometers
  • Various exercise techniques Pilates,
    plyometrics, resistance training with active
    range of motion, and yoga with cool down
    stretches.

Health Promotion
  • Tolerance and Teamwork Physical education
    activities offer many opportunities for students
    to work cooperatively and develop the necessary
    skills to be effective leaders, communicators,
    and role models for others.
  • Development of Character Education Physical
    education activities help students to develop
    skills for understanding the concepts of fair
    play, safety, problem-solving, role-playing, and
    responsibility.
  • Goal Setting Students are able to develop their
    own methods of defining their personal, group,
    and school goals for health promotion in relation
    to daily activities for fitness.
  • Examples of Health Promotion
  • Project Adventure Activities in Low-Element
    Setting Icebreakers, group challenges, and
    problem-solving activities that stress group and
    work cooperation.
  • Project Adventure Activities in High-Element
    setting Belaying, trust falls activities,
    two-line bridge climb, and cargo nets crossing.
  • Goals Students are given positive feedback
    regarding their success on each activity, charts
    that measure their improvement based on their
    performances, group help for new strategies and
    closure time to express their feelings.

    School P.E. Night, and Open House

  • Physical activity is a major source for releasing
    energy, and giving each student multiple
    opportunities and the time, experience, and
    encouragement to explore his or her own success.
  • Examples of energy-releasing activities
  • Activities in a non-traditional setting
    Speedball (a combination of soccer and handball),
    cup-stacking with music, broom hockey,
    Goo-Goo-Gaa-Gaa (beach ball bonanza), PAC-Man,
    and Hip-Hop dances!
  • Activities for cool-down period Deep breathing,
    ta-chi, mental relaxation techniques, and
    flashlight tag.
