  • Today while you are reading, mark two places in
    your book where you might share some of what you
    were thinking about as you read.
  • Use sticky notes to remember the place so we can
    share our thoughts at the end.

  • The first time, focus on fixing your
    capitalization
  • (Start of a sentence, proper nouns, etc)
  • The second time, focus on improving your usage
    (grammar)
  • (consistent verb tenses)
  • The third time, try to improve your punctuation
  • (commas, semi colons, periods, exclamation marks,
    etc.)
  • Finally, read your draft and tweak your spelling

Good Copy Requirements

  • Please note that all work must be done in class.
  • You may not take your writing notebook home.
  • If you need extra time to finish your paragraph,
    please come in during second recess or after
    school.
  • Please write neatly using blue or black pen on
    one side of a regular piece of paper (8.5 x 11,
    lined.) The good copy needs to be neat, but it
    does not need to be typed up.
  • Please attach the photograph on the same side as
    your paragraph. (It will be photocopied.)
  • Please make sure your name and class appear in
    the top right corner
  • Please come up with a catchy title that captures
    the big idea for your paragraph and photograph.
  • My summer vacation doesn't grab the reader's
    attention.

    (i.e. prediction, inferring) whether we are
    reading a novel or watching a movie.
  • You can read in a different language once a week
    and count it as a Media text.
  • You can read a textbook from another class.
  • i.e. If you read your history textbook for 20
    minutes, you can count it for English homework.
    (If you answer homework questions during that 20
    minutes, it doesnt count.)
