  the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese
  literature.

• This novel originally published in the 1590s
  during the Ming Dynasty.
• The novel comprises 100 chapters.

Xuán Zàngs trip

• The novel is a fictionalized story based on the
  legends of the Buddhist monk, Xuán Zàng, who
  crossed the mighty desert to reach India during
  the Tang dynasty.

Xuán Zàng

• 19 years later, he came back to china with over
  600 Buddhist scriptures. So, the actual journey
  to the west was born. However, master Xuán Zàng
  actually was a little bit different from master
  Táng Seng.

About the story

• Journey to the west is a combination of myth,
  fable, and comedy.
• It is a story about a Buddhist monk and bunch of
  animals with human characteristics who traveled
  west to India to find Buddhist scriptures.
• The animals have magical powers that protect them
  from the monsters and the evil spirits.

Rúlái
Guanyin

• Guanyin was told by the Buddha, Rulái, to give
  the task to the monk and his three protectors
  Sun Wùkong, Zhu Bajiè, and Sha Wùjìng together
  with a dragon prince who acts as Xuánzàng's
  horse.

• Before the monk can find the scriptures, he must
  pass 81 obstacles, including overcoming
  supernatural beings like a cow demon, spider
  beasts, and a living skeleton.

Táng Seng

• In the novel, Táng Seng is kind and
  compassionate, but his inability to distinguish
  between truth and falsehood causes trouble for
  him. But, of course, when he follows blindly into
  traps, it is always monkey that comes to help.

Sun WùkongMonkey King
Sun Wùkong, a monkey who was created out of a
rock, learns the art of fighting and secrets of
immortality, and makes himself the Qítian
Dàshèng or "Equal of Heaven, Great Sage".

Our Hero

• Monkey is gifted with intelligence and agility.
  He can transform himself 72 times in a blink of
  an eye. He has a magic wand that can shrink
  smaller then needle or expand till it is like a
  club of bronze, and a magic cloud that can take
  him up to the heaven or down to the earth.
• Fearing nothing, the monkey even makes a bet with
  Buddha. He will just not bow to the rules.
• Being sincere and optimistic in nature, he is not
  bothered by suffering and is always ready to face
  new challenges.

Zhu Bajiè Pig--Clumsy, lazy, honest and direct

• He is always making a mess of things and
  generating a lot of humor in the process.
• Pig has magical powers, but it is just not the
  same as monkey.
• Pig is lazy, he needs his material comforts.
  When it comes to trouble, he just can't hold his
  side up, so hes always first to call for help.
• He loves beautiful women and riches.

Sha Wùjìng--Sandy

• Another character that appears quite less
  frequently is Sha Seng. He is quiet, honest,
  obedience.

• In the journey to the west, there were a lot of
  obstacles.
• In our lives, there are many challenges and
  difficulties, too. What should we do?
• Be brave, be smart, work hard, and temper
  ourselves to achieve ideals and goodness.
