- Where are their hearts?
- What is their motive for doing what they are
doing? - Have we given them proper instruction?
- Do they know what they are meant to be doing
why?
4Abilities / life-skills
Life-skills are not behavioural issues they are
achievements which need discipline if they are
to be acquired

7Hebrews 1211 No discipline seems pleasant at
the time, but painful. Later on however, it
produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for
those who have been trained by it
It is a loving parent who seeks to discipline his
child wisely and thoughtfully
8To correct or not to correct?
Was it accidental or intentional?
Was it done out of
Childish innocence?
Childish thoughtlessness?
Deliberate naughtiness?
9Deliberate naughtiness will fall into the
following
- Small incidents that need a telling off
- Naughtiness that needs more than just a verbal
telling off - Behaviour that will need a stronger action
10Any punishment given to a child in an
un-thought-out, careless or vengeful fashion is
abusive
11Shaping our children will involve both
encouragement and correction
12To say sorry only goes part of the way it
acknowledges a mistake.
To ask for forgiveness demonstrates a change of
heart
13Discipline should be the framework and
encouragement learn how to control their
behaviour and develop self discipline enabler
a creative force designed to build maturity and
consistency self control they need to manage
