Our goal
  • We work to reduce the financial impact of violent
    crime on eligible victims and their families,
    working in partnership with victim-assistance
    communities.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Occur in Washington
  • Be a gross misdemeanor or felony
  • Must be reported within 1 year to law enforcement
  • Application must be received within 2 years of
    police report filing date
  • Victim must provide reasonable cooperation with
    law enforcement to apprehend and convict the
    offender

Eligibility Requirements
  • Vehicular crimes must be vehicular assault
    (requires a conviction), vehicular homicide,
    failure to secure a load in the 1st degree,
  • or DUI
  • Injury cannot be as a result of consent,
    provocation or incitement
  • Victim cannot be in the commission of a felony
    crime
  • Victim cannot be incarcerated

Compensation
  • Medical bills - 150,000 maximum
  • Time loss - 15,000 maximum
  • Disability awards - 30,000 maximum includes time
    loss and vocational rehabilitation
  • Limited pension - 40,000 maximum
  • Vocational rehabilitation - 5,000 maximum
  • Funeral bills - 7,097.32 FY 2007

When Can CVC Start Paying?
  • The Crime Victim Compensation Program is the
    payer of last resort
  • We pay secondary to all private and public
    insurance benefits
  • Victims must use providers covered under their
    insurance
  • We pay secondary to Workers Compensation if the
    incident happened on the job

Bill Payment Section
  • CVC covers payment for all rape exams in the
    state (3,295 in fiscal year 2007)
  • Providers must be registered with CVC to receive
    payment
  • Victims must use primary insurance providers
  • Receive 6,000 bills per month
  • Process 96 within 50 days of receipt

Make sure when sending a bill you ....
  • Include your patients crime victims claim
    number
  • Your CVCP provider number and tax account number
  • The EOB from the patients primary insurance,
    even when they wont pay
  • When you include this information it allows CVCP
    to pay your bill much more quickly
