of transportation, shall meet the needs of
visitors, residents and employees alike in the
    spirit of Aloha.

Transportation in WaikikiVision Statements
For this project, it was felt that a vision for
the future of transportation and its relationship
to making Waikiki more livable was needed. A
set of vision statements were initially
developed by the Project Team during a week long
Charrette that was held in December 2001The
initial vision statements that were developed
during the Charrette were subsequently introduced
at various meetings and refined to reflect a
shared vision based on public input. The
vision statements address the four major avenues
and boulevards in Waikiki and the mauka-makai
street system that make up the grid-like roadway
pattern in Waikiki. The vision statements were
endorsed by the Project Steering Committee and
then presented and validated at an Issues Update
Meeting held in September 2002 and at a Public
Workshop held in October 2002
