  • Purpose To evaluate the in vivo efficacy of
gatifloxacin 0.3 and moxifloxacin 0.5 eyedrops
in the treatment of Enterococcus faecalis
    endophthalmitis in a rabbit model.

Methods
Administraion of 0.5MFLX 0.3GFLX (x8, every
15min.). Starting _at_ 4h and 6h postoperatively.
Enucleation of the surgical eye _at_ 24hr, 48hr and
72hr postoperatively. Examination for the
bacterial population.
Results
Starting _at_ 4h postoperatively
Starting _at_ 6h postoperatively
No significant differences in those two eyedrops
treatment groups
Conclusion We previously reported that a
multiple-drop schedule of gatifloxacin produced
high aqueous concentrations in a rabbit model.
However, multiple administrations for the fourth
generation quinolone eyedrops were not efficacy
for E. faecalis endophthalmitis in a rabbit model.
