Application for River Rafting Crew Member
  • Dear Applicant,
  • Thankyou for your application to join the crew of
    the Colarado River Rafting Team. As you will be
    aware the Colorado River in the USA is one of the
    worlds most exiting rivers to raft. With such
    great rapids we need to be absolutely sure that
    you are capable of reading the river we can
    only trust experts on our team.
  • In this application we are going to test your
    knowledge of rivers to the maximum to be sure you
    are the right man or woman for the team.

This is John Fergus (our skipper) with his wife
and young son. He will talk you through the tasks
you must complete be sure to follow his
instructions carefully. Good Luck!

Using the following description, draw the feature

  • The river is meandering across the valley,
  • (b) the river is eroding laterally (from side to
    side),
  • (c) the river erodes the outside of the bends and
    deposits on the inside so its course is
    changing,
  • (d) this erosion narrows the neck of the meander
  • (e) often during a flood the river will cut
    through the neck,
  • (f) the river continues in the new bed and the
    meander is abandoned,
  • (g) new deposition seals off the ends and the
    cut-off becomes an ox-bow lake.
