• Big Brothers Big Sisters is the most effective
  youth mentoring organization in Lorain County .
  We have been the leader in  youth service for
  more than a decade, developing positive
  relationships that have a direct and lasting
  impact on the lives of young people.

  youth)
• 52 less likely to skip school
• 1/3 less likely to hit someone
• 45 increased grades (5 USDE guideline)
• 63 decreased unexcused absences(10 USDE
  guideline)

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

• Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
  Prevention (OJJDP) Blueprint Program for
  reducing juvenile crime and violence.
• Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
  Administration (SAMHSA) Model Program for drug
  and alcohol Prevention.
• A study conducted by Washington State Institute
  for Public Policy found that for every dollar
  invested in Big Brothers Big Sisters there was a
  savings of 3.29.
• Lorain County agency has been recognized by BBBSA
  for Racial Diversity, Growth, and volunteer
  screening and training.

• Youth, Ages 6 -18
• Adults, Ages 17/18 -
• Commitment is 1 Year, but average match length is
  2.5 years.
• One hour, once a week. Three hours, once a
  month. For one year.

• Application Process (like employment apps)
• Application completion, including up to 4
  references.
• Copy of Drivers License and Insurance (for
  community based volunteers, 18 years old).
• Interview.
• Reference and Background Check.
• Match Support Training.
• Match Facilitation.

MATCHING PROCESS

• Monthly Match Support with BBBS Match Support
  Specialists and Caseworkers.
• Volunteer Appreciation Days.
• If placed on the waiting list, or if you are
  ready to be matched, monthly Big For a Day
  activities are arranged to keep volunteers
  engaged.
• Newsletters mailed and on-line

WHAT CANT BBBS DO?

• We cant make a match with a Big and a Little
  without the consent of the parent and/or
  caregiver.
• We cant go at this alone. Collaboration is vital.
