• In the production of heat the fuels are taxed
  according to their energy and CO2 content.
• Biofuels and peat are free of tax.

• Taxes constitute the base for the shift to a
  sustainable energy system
• The CO2 tax has resulted in a considerably
  decreased part of fossil fuel use

• Users are obligated to buy certificates at a
  certain proportion of the electricity they use

• Yet too early to evaluate the system no severe
  problems this far
• A constructed market is associated with high
  administrative costs

• Important to concentrate on a smaller selection
  of different fuels
• There is a need for an European agreement here!
